Every month, Netflix adds and removes dozens of movies. Some are worth your time. Most aren’t. We watch so you don’t have to waste your Tuesday night on a 2-star thriller that looked good in the thumbnail.
Here are the best movies on Netflix right now — organized by mood so you can find exactly what you’re looking for tonight.
🍿 If You Want a Crowd-Pleaser
Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)
Genre: Drama/Music | Rating: PG-13 | Runtime: 134 min
Rami Malek’s Oscar-winning turn as Freddie Mercury is electric. Whether you’re a Queen superfan or barely know the band, the Live Aid sequence alone is worth pressing play. It takes some liberties with the timeline, but you won’t care when the music kicks in.
Perfect for: Movie night with friends or family
Atonement (2007)
Genre: Drama/Romance | Rating: R | Runtime: 123 min
Keira Knightley and James McAvoy star in this devastating World War II romance that’ll leave you emotionally wrecked. A young Saoirse Ronan — already a star at age 12 — sets a tragic chain of events in motion with one lie. Beautiful, heartbreaking, unforgettable.
Perfect for: Date night (bring tissues)
Madagascar (2005)
Genre: Animation/Comedy | Rating: PG | Runtime: 86 min
A group of zoo animals escape to the wild and immediately realize they have no idea what they’re doing. Light, funny, and endlessly quotable. “I like to move it, move it” will be stuck in your head for days.
Perfect for: Solo Sunday afternoon or watching with kids
😱 If You Want to Be Scared
28 Years Later: The Bone Temple (2026)
Genre: Horror | Rating: R | Runtime: 109 min
The sequel to last year’s 28 Years Later just dropped on Netflix and it’s one of the best horror films of 2026 so far. Ralph Fiennes is experimenting with the rage virus while a gang of tracksuit-clad Satanists causes chaos. Nia DaCosta directs with intensity — there’s one Fiennes scene that will be talked about all year.
Scare level: Sleep-with-the-lights-on
Misery (1990)
Genre: Horror/Thriller | Rating: R | Runtime: 107 min
Kathy Bates won an Oscar for her terrifying performance as Annie Wilkes, the “number one fan” who rescues — and then traps — her favorite author (James Cagney… just kidding, it’s James Caan). Stephen King’s best adaptation? It’s in the conversation. Heads up: leaving Netflix soon, watch it before it’s gone.
Scare level: High — the ankle scene still haunts people
😂 If You Want to Laugh
Pineapple Express (2008)
Genre: Comedy/Action | Rating: R | Runtime: 111 min
Seth Rogen and James Franco stumble into a drug war after witnessing a murder. It’s dumb, it’s hilarious, and Danny McBride shows up to make everything even more chaotic. Peak stoner comedy. Leaving Netflix April 1 — watch it NOW.
Perfect for: Late night with friends
Eat Pray Bark (2026)
Genre: Comedy/Drama | Rating: PG-13 | Runtime: TBD
Brand new Netflix Original. A burned-out travel writer adopts a stray dog and goes globe-trotting to find her spark again. Lighter than you’d expect, with surprisingly heartfelt moments and gorgeous scenery.
Perfect for: Feel-good weekend viewing
🧠 If You Want Something Smart
Ex Machina (2015)
Genre: Sci-Fi/Thriller | Rating: R | Runtime: 108 min
A programmer visits a tech CEO’s remote compound to test a humanoid AI. Oscar Isaac is magnetic, Alicia Vikander is mesmerizing, and the ending will make you rethink your relationship with technology. Feels even more relevant in 2026 than when it came out.
Perfect for: When you want something that sticks with you
Erin Brockovich (2000)
Genre: Drama | Rating: R | Runtime: 130 min
Julia Roberts won her Oscar for this one — and earned every bit of it. A single mom bulldozes her way into a law firm and takes on a utility company poisoning a town’s water supply. Based on a true story. You’ll be cheering by the end.
Perfect for: When you need to feel inspired
🎬 If You Want a Netflix Original
Apex (2026) — Coming April 24
Genre: Action/Thriller | Rating: R | Runtime: TBD
Charlize Theron stars as a rock climber whose hiking trip turns into a deadly game of survival when she’s targeted by hunters. The trailer promises an intense, explosive ride. Mark your calendar.
Perfect for: Popcorn movie night
Bugonia (2025) — Coming April 26
Genre: Sci-Fi/Dark Comedy | Rating: R | Runtime: TBD
From Yorgos Lanthimos (Poor Things, The Favourite) — this dark, absurdist sci-fi comedy with Emma Stone didn’t get the Oscar love it deserved. Now’s your chance to see why people are calling it one of 2025’s most underrated films.
Perfect for: When you want something weird and brilliant
